Chapter 2: P15

Parade of Homes Design Inspiration

Hi there!

I'm Kelly Scott and I'll be taking over the Trove Journal today to give you a little sneak peek of the design inspiration for an exciting project we've been working on together. I am thrilled to be working with Memmer Homes and Trove Warehouse to design a house for the 2018 Parade of Homes! When I signed on to design the house, I immediately reached out to Trove to partner with us since they're my favorite place in town to source products and design ideas for clients. I love a room that looks curated and not like it was plucked from one store or catalog which is a look I can easily create at Trove. They source their pieces from such a vast range of manufacturers to allow for a design concept that is uniquely its own.

Over the next few months we'll be sharing every aspect of the design process down to the carefully styled details of each room. Follow along with me today as I share our overall design concept and inspiration boards!

When I'm designing a home, I like to start with an overall concept board drawing inspiration from Pinterest and Instagram to get things started. This year I wanted to create a very different feel from the last Parade home I did with Memmer in 2016 (Seen Here - #MemmerModernColonial)but still represent my overall aesthetic - fresh, modern and curated. This time we went a bit moodier and more modern - #MemmerNewTraditional.

The exterior concept set the overall design for the entire house. We used warm cedar and dark gray siding in Sherwin Williams Gauntlet Grey and added a finishing touch of black windows & natural limestone. This rich layer of textures set the tone for the interior. I always feel  that a home feels much more thoughtful and cohesive when the outside gives guests a glimpse into what they will see inside.

Speaking of the inside... I like to create a design plan for each space in a home and we had so much fun putting all of them together for this project! The planning process can be time consuming, but thinking through every layer helps to focus and give you direction when selecting everything from furniture to tile to lighting.

The kitchen is the heart of the home so that's exactly where I usually start with my design projects. Here are a few images that really inspired us. You'll notice lots of marble, brass, whites and deep iron grays. Oh, and did I mention there's a wood burning fireplace in the kitchen?! It’s so good. My kids keep asking if we can roast marshmallows in it - lol!

The rest of the house flowed easily from there. We challenged ourselves to add surprises throughout the house, from a fun patterned tile to pops of green and a killer fireplace treatment. There's even a cute surprise in the basement for anyone with children! And you won’t want to miss the wallpaper options we chose for the office & tween girls room.

I always want a house to look beautiful, but welcoming, a bit outside of the box and still practical for everyday life. I'm proud to say I think we achieved this balance with this thoughtfully designed space. Come check out our house at the BIA Parade of Homes running September 1-16th! Every Trove find you see in the home is available for purchase after the parade from furniture to lighting, rugs and accessories! Be sure to mark your calendars and visit us at house #5 to check it out for yourself!

Hi, you don’t happen to still carry the black and white pillow (I think it’s made by Lololi) on the white chair next to the fireplace in this post do you? Thanks!
